Jakob Mos and Amy Dawson - Married July 2020
Amy had been a disciple for over 20 years, yet she had never dated in the church. She was a single mom of a son, Drew who was diagnosed with autism at age 10. She works as an Accounts Payable Specialist at HSS, Inc. in Aurora, Colorado.
In faith, Amy decided to sign up for DT Heart & Soul . One of the brothers who caught her attention was Jakob Mos, owner of Jade Tool, Inc. from Beamsville, Ontario.
Jakob’s family group leader had encouraged him to try DT Heart and Soul. Although he was hesitant, he decided to take advantage of a three-month discount and signed up in May 2018.
Jakob and Amy communicated back and forth from May until September, when they had their first date over FaceTime. During this time, Amy says that Proverbs 19:21 helped her to be patient with God’s timing and plans: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
In October 2018, Jakob flew out to Denver to meet Amy in person. He met her son, Drew, now 22, her brother Ryan, and her Mom and Dad before he met Amy. But after all that time communicating online, Amy did not feel a connection with Jakob when they finally met in person.
Jakob humbly asked her to work with him, saying that what he really liked about Amy was how she had been a disciple for over 20 years and how she was so loving with her family and friends. Jakob flew out to Denver again for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and on December 21st, he asked her to be his girlfriend! Jakob flew out six more times to Denver to build their relationship and go on double dates. Couples in both the Colorado and Ontario churches discipled and mentored their relationship.
Jakob shared a letter with Amy about how to help their relationship glorify God, with these three points and the following scripture.
- Love God above each other
- Make sure to encourage each other and not discourage each
- Take things slowly (purity)
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us – 1 John 4:7-12
